iPhone Launches 6/29 - Not just for Geeks

So the Ads have hit the street and they're pretty straight to the point. What I like about them is the showcasing of the visually stunning interface that's also (apparently) easy to use.

You're probably familiar about how your grandparents (or even your parents) never could program the VCR. Not that it was all that hard to program VCRs, but the perceived complexity of said act caused the less-savvy to give up before even starting. And it's that perception of complexity that creates the chasm a product must cross for mass adoption. To date, that chasm has stifled smartphones from becoming the dominant design in mobile phones. I'll be the first to admit that the blackberry, which I own, is easy to use. But that's my opinion. I have bumped into a few people who are intimidated by it and think it's too advanced for them to even try.

What's wonderful about the iPhone Ads is the ease of use they demonstrate - appealing to the most technically challenged among us. How many cell phone ads can double as a tutorial? That in itself speaks volumes about Apple's groundbreaking UI. From what I've seen, Apple's UI may prove to be a disruptor in that it shatters the smartphone perception of complexity. Maybe we should call the iPhone Grandma's first smartphone.
